Overview
Psychology explores human behaviour, processes of the mind and what factors shape your actions. We look at areas from how your social groups influence your behaviour, how memory works and why it might fail with the onset of dementia.
Psychology also considers how your brain structure and genes can influence you in ways like your temper and how your life experiences shapes your personality and behaviour.

Psychology is a science subject which gives you vital evaluation and analysis skills for your chosen future career path. We engage in deep debates about whether behaviour is nature or nurture and how we best explain human behaviour.
What can you expect from this A level?
In Psychology you’ll be able to learn through direct teaching, research of your own, discussion and applying taught theories to interesting real world examples. You will study areas such as prejudice, obedience, memory, aggression, drug addiction, brain areas, hormones, phobias, media influence, mental illness, relationships with your parents, autism and the effects of deprivation on children.
What can you do with a qualification in this subject?
This subject can lead to degrees in clinical psychology, counselling, neuroscience, and education.
It also opens doors to diverse career paths, including roles such as clinical psychologist, counsellor, educational psychologist, forensic psychologist, occupational therapist, mental health worker, and researcher.
Assessment
You are assessed through three exams on different course areas.
Each exam has short questions and essays which ask you to explain and evaluate the concepts and theories of Psychology.
Preparation for exams is built up through lessons and independent study to shape you into a psychological researcher in the making.
