Overview
Law examines the rules and principles governing our lives through Acts of Parliament and case law, impacting everything from daily activities to landmark societal decisions. This course teaches how the legal system operates, including the roles of legal professionals and the processes of making and enforcing laws in both civil and criminal contexts.

You are expected to have achieved at least a 5 in a similar subject at GCSE

Why study this subject?
In this A level course, you'll explore criminal and civil law, and the English Legal System, covering new content weekly. You'll research key legal areas before classes to debate law evolution, effectiveness, and reform. Apply your knowledge to scenarios, advise clients, participate in Bar Mock Trials, enhance advocacy skills, and engage with legal professionals through career enrichment activities.
What can you expect from this A level?
Studying law will provide you with a versatile and valuable set of skills such as problem solving through identifying legal issues and providing advice, critical evaluation skills through discussing the effectiveness of the law and whether it is fit for purpose. You will also develop communication and oracy skills through a range of enrichment activities such as Bar Mock Trial and advocacy workshops on trips.
What can you do with a qualification in this subject?
Studying Law can prepare you to start your journey towards your legal career as a solicitor, barrister, legal executive, or paralegal.
It can also lead to other careers in the Crown Prosecution Service, police, the home office and other government institutions.
Assessment
At the end of the two-year course students will sit three separate exams.
The Legal System and Criminal Law, Law Making and The Law of Torts and our optional module: Contract Law.
Each exam is two hours long containing several extended essays and there is no course work requirement.
During your time on the course you will sit several mock exams, monthly ongoing assessment's and weekly knowledge tests.
