A level Economics will engage you critically with real world issues and give you the opportunity to apply your economic knowledge and skills to current affairs. A good economist is an independent thinker and someone who recognises the relevance of the subject in understanding the wider global events and how hey affect us all.

GCSE - 5 or above in Economics or a similar subject.

Why study this subject?

The A level curriculum gives you a good base understanding of the various economic concepts you may encounter when working towards a career in economics or undertaking university study. The subject is a highly valued A level for those looking to pursue a Russell Group university place and is recognised and valued by employers in many finance and business related sectors.

The core learning includes an introduction to markets and market failure, the UK Economy; business behaviour and the labour market and a global economic perspective. As well as dynamic lessons, you will have the opportunity to attend guest lectures from key industry speakers and leading universities.

The subject can lead to a wide range of careers including accountancy, business management, civil service, data analysis, financial advisor and analyst.

Assessment

The subject is assessed through three written exam papers at the end of your second year.

You will be supported throughout your two years through regular assessments with detailed feedback to help you improve your knowledge and skills.
